The first things everyone connects when we heard of “Trichy” is Rockfort temple(Malakkottai). It has become a symbol of Trichy. Three significant idols the Manikka Vinayakar, Ucchi Pillayar(Lord Ganesha) and Thayumanavar(Lord Shiva) is present at Rockfort temple. It’s very surprising to believe this enormous temple was built on a rocky hill in the 7th century. According to mythology, Kaveri was formed because of the deity Ucchi Pillayar. In order to darshan the Uchi Pillayar, you have to takes 417 steps. After you make it to the top, you get the astonishing view of entire Trichy. The temple holds some major festivals like Chittirai festival, Car festival, and Karthigai festival.
